Inglis Celebrates Scone Carnival & Sale

Thursday, 14th May 2015

The grand finale to a massive Scone Horse Festival will begin with Australia's richest country carnival, the $2 million Scone Cup Carnival, this Friday 15th and Saturday 16th May, and will conclude with the Inglis Hunter Thoroughbred Breeders' Association Scone Yearling Sale on Sunday 17 May. Thirteen juveniles will contest the $100,000 Inglis 2YO Challenge on Friday, which is open to horses sold or passed in at the Inglis HTBA Scone Yearling Sale that have been nominated for the lucrative $5 million Inglis Race Series. Scone's Rod Northam, three-time winning trainer of the Inglis 2YO Challenge (including the 2014 edition with Voodoo Lad), has two chances to take out a fourth with Professor Marx and Sargent Doakes. "I have the advantage of having such a great carnival and a great sale at my doorstep," said Northam. "I do my research and target horses from the Scone Yearling Sale that can run in the 2YO Challenge in 12 months' time, and I'm lucky enough to have two that are doing just that on Friday." The excitement continues on Saturday where the Scone track will play host to a number of black type races including the $400,000 RL Inglis Guineas, for which 16 three-year-olds have been accepted to start. This race continues to attract a quality field hoping to follow in the footsteps of past winners Cosmic Endeavour and Sincero, which both won the Inglis Guineas on their way to Gr1 success at the Brisbane Winter Carnival. Saturday's contest will feature Group 3 winners Boomwaa and Nayeli, last start Listed Gosford Guineas victor Ygritte, NSW Provincial Championship winner Sure And Fast, along with local star Bulletproof Monk, which was a $6,000 purchase from the 2013 Inglis HTBA Scone Yearling Sale. Finally on Sunday, the 2015 edition of the Inglis HTBA Scone Yearling Sale will be held from 10.30am at Scone's White Park. Yearlings will be arriving and available for inspection at the complex from Friday, 15 May. Click here to view catalogue.
