The Wow Signal Retired To Stud

Wednesday, 13th May 2015

The Wow Signal (Starspangledbanner-Muravka, by High Chaparral) has been retired to stand at Sheikh Joaan's Haras de Bouquetot stud in France for the 2015 season, reports At The Races. Last season's Gr1 Prix Morny winner, who is owned by Sheikh Joaan's Al Shaqab Racing, had his Classic season aborted after missing his scheduled reappearance in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket due to injury.  Speaking on Al Shaqab's Facebook page, racing advisor Harry Herbert said: "We are very sad that The Wow Signal has had to be retired. It is always disappointing when a horse like this is prevented from reaching his full potential. His two-year-old form has emerged as some of the best in the world and I have no doubt that he would have gone on to be an exceptional three-year-old." Trainer John Quinn commented: "He is a very tough horse with a great constitution and tremendous acceleration who ran well on all types of ground. He put in an outstanding performance to win the Prix Morny." He added, "He is a very special horse and I am sure that he will make a great stallion. We will miss him very much but I look forward to training his offspring in the future." A son of Australian-bred sire Starspangledbanner, The Wow Signal will initially stand at Swettenham Stud in Australia before joining the Al Shaqab roster in France. He retires with 3 wins from 4 starts with his only defeat coming in the Gr1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere on Arc day in October.
