NZB National Bloodstock Sale Day-2: $90K For Tavistock Weanling
The weanling session of New Zealand Bloodstock's National Weanling, Broodmare & Mixed Bloodstock Sale concluded yesterday with a solid two days of trade at Karaka. A total of 350 weanlings were offered with 250 selling for an aggregate of NZ$3,028,300, increasing from NZ$2,656,450 recorded at last year's Sale. The clearance rate finished at 80 per cent for the National Weanling Sale, compared with 79 per cent last year, with an average of NZ$12,113 and a median of NZ$4,000. The sire of the two highest priced weanlings yesterday was Cambridge Stud's Tavistock, making him the leading sire by average (three or more sold). Tavistock, whose oldest progeny are only 3YOs, had seven weanlings sell for an average of NZ$37,357, with his highest priced weanling fetching NZ$90,000, the top price on Day 2 in the weanling session. Purchased by NZB as agent, Lot 216 from Brighthill Farm is out of All by Myself, a daughter of the great sire Zabeel. All by Myself is a half-sister to stakes-winner Single (High Chaparral). Lyndhurst Farm purchased two weanlings for NZ$80,000 yesterday, the second highest prices of the day. The first was Lot 213, a colt by Tavistock from the family of dual Gr1 winner Vonusti consigned by Brighthill Farm, and the second was Lot 327, a colt by freshman sire Ocean Park whose second dam is former champion NZ filly Happyanunoit from the draft of Currgahmore Stud. Gordon Cunningham's Curraghmore Stud had another prosperous National Weanling Sale, finishing as the leading vendor by aggregate for the tenth consecutive year. Selling nine horses, Curraghmore Stud concluded with a total aggregate of NZ$375,500 at an average of NZ$41,722. Trelawney Stud came in as the leading vendor by average (three or more sold), selling four weanlings for an average of NZ$49,750. They produced the top price of the Sale with Lot 112, the half relation to Gr1 winner Suavito, selling for NZ$160,000. The final day of selling is today, commencing with 187 Lots catalogued for the National Broodmare Sale beginning at 11am.
