Artlee Ready For Stakes Test

Wednesday, 13th May 2015

Talented country galloper Artlee (Excellent Art-Danelee Dancer, by Danehill  Dancer) will bid for his third straight victory when he makes his stakes debut in the Listed Luskin Star Stakes (1300m) at Scone on Saturday, reports horseracing.com.au. The 4YO, who is coming off a resounding 3-length win in the Country Championships Final at Royal Randwick on day one of The Championships, has now won his last two starts by a combined margin of 8-lengths to boost his impressive strike rate to 5 wins from 8 starts. Trainer Todd Willan gave the Excellent Art gelding a two week break following his last start win and said he was now ready to return to the races after recording a strong barrier trial victory over Big Money at Muswellbrook last week. "He had a short break and this race presented itself," Willan told Sky's Racing HQ. "The only other race we had in mind was the Glasshouse at the Sunshine Coast this weekend, but Scone is right at our back door and we opted to go there." He added, "He had a really good exhibition gallop with Big Money and I was really happy with that, but I would have liked him to go a bit harder, so he had a jump out on Friday and he cleared out in that pretty well. It is all systems go." Willan said he was confident that Artlee would acquit himself well on Saturday and that the 1300 metres was the ideal trip at this stage of his career. "He will probably get out to a mile next prep, but while he is so big and raw 1300 is his genuine best distance," he said. "He has such a sensational turn-of-foot and he can be tardy out of the gates and if you just sit on him he will cart you into the race himself. They will definitely know that he is there."
