Shamal Wind Trials Ahead Of Royal Ascot Trip

Tuesday, 12th May 2015

Talented sprinting mare Shamal Wind (Dubawi-Firemaid, by Machiavellian) continued her build up for next month's Gr1 King's Stand Stakes (1000m) at Royal Ascot with a barrier trial at Cranbourne yesterday, reports racing.com. The Gr1 Oakleigh Plate winner finished seventh in the opening 800m heat of the morning which was won by the Robbie Laing-trained Sinhala in 46.97 seconds on a heavy track. Trainer Robert Smerdon said the 5YO would have one more trial before departing for England on 3 June. "She was just here for a day out really without being extended so to do what she did under those circumstances was pleasing," Smerdon said. "The track is obviously very testing so we didn't want to overdo things with her and she'll have another 800m trial before she goes to the UK." He added, "I'm pretty happy with where she's at and the way she's going."
