Ivanhowe Set For Australian Debut
Top-class German-bred stayer Ivanhowe (Soldier Hollow-Indigo Girl, by Sternkönig) is set to make his Australian debut in the Gr3 RA Lee Stakes (1600m) at Morphettville on Saturday, reports horseracing.com.au. Trainers Lee and Anthony Freedman have nominated Ivanhowe for the $150,000 event, which will be the 5YOs first official race start since finishing sixth behind Epiphaneia in the Gr1 Japan Cup on 30 November. "He is ready to have a race in a couple of weeks if we want to," Lee Freedman said. "We are looking at the set weights and penalty race in Adelaide over 1600 metres." Formerly trained by Jean-Pierre Carvalho, the son of Soldier Hollow is a dual Gr1 winner of the Grosser Preis von Bayern (2400m) and Grosser Preis von Bayern, in which he defeated subsequent German Derby winner Sea The Moon. Testament to Ivanhowe's class is the fact that he polled third behind Sea The Moon and Melbourne Cup winner Protectionist in Germany's Horse of the Year award earlier this year.
