Dry Track Forecast For York

Tuesday, 12th May 2015

The forecast for York's Dante meeting, which begins tomorrow, is for a mainly dry week with the exception of Thursday when some rain is possible, reports Racing Post. The track was officially rated good to soft yesterday morning, with assistant clerk of the course Anthea Morshead tweeting: "A dry, cloudy start to Dante week at York and the going is good to soft. The forecast is dry and warm today, dry and cooler tomorrow and Wednesday, rain on Thursday and dry on Friday." Thursday's Gr2 Dante Stakes (10 furlongs) is one of the traditional lead-ups for the Epsom Derby, and this year several highly regarded Classic contenders will put their Derby credentials to the test, including pre-post favourite Jack Hobbs. Trained by John Gosden, the son of Halling has been all the rage for the Derby since maintaining his unbeaten record with a devastating 12-length victory in the Bet365 Handicap (10furlongs) at Sandown last month. Among Jack Hobbs' main rivals will be his unbeaten stable-mate Golden Horn, the Qatar Racing-owned Elm Park, winner of last year's Gr1 Racing Post Trophy, and Aidan O'Brien's Racing Post runner-up Aloft.
