Make Believe Wins Gr1 French 2,000 Guineas

Monday, 11th May 2015

At Longchamp in the France overnight, Westbury Stud shuttle stallion Makfi (Dubawi-Dhelaal, by Green Desert) celebrated a Gr1 success when 3YO colt Make Believe (Makfi-Rosie's Posy, by Suave Dancer) scored by 3-lengths for trainer Andree Fabre in the Gr1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains (8 furlongs) for 3YO c&g, over fellow 3YO colts New Bay (Dubawi-Cinnamon Bay, by Zamindar) & Mr Owen (Invincible Spirit-Mrs Lindsay, by Theatrical). This was the first Gr1 victory for Make Believe who took his record to 3 wins and 1 placing (including the Gr3 Prix Djebel) from 4 starts. Make Believe is now likely to head to the Gr1 St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot on 16 June. Ted Voute, adviser to the winning owner Prince Faisal, told Racing Post. "Where he goes will be up to the Prince and Andre Fabre. I would suspect that, out of respect for Godolphin with whom he shares Belardo, the Prince won't look at the Irish Guineas. It's only 13 days and he would need to be supplemented." He added, "We are in the [Prix du] Jockey Club but he looks to have plenty of speed so maybe the St James's Palace would be his race."
