Delicacy Wins Gr1 South Australian Derby

Monday, 11th May 2015

At Morphettville in South Australia, Emirates Park Stud stallion Al Maher celebrated a Gr1 success when star 3YO Perth filly Delicacy (Al Maher-Simply Wicked, by Scenic) scored by 1.6-lengths for trainer Grant Williams in the $500,000 Gr1 South Australian Derby (2500m) for 3YOs, over 3YO geldings Werther (Tavistock-Bagalollies, by Zabeel) & Allergic (Street Cry-Cajou, by Encosta de Lago). A homebred for prominent WA owner and breeder Bob Peters, Delicacy took her record to 10 wins (including the Gr1 Australasian Oaks, Gr2 WA Oaks, Gr3 WA Champion Fillies Stakes, Listed Natasha Stakes & Listed Ascot 1000 Guineas) and 3 placings (including the Listed WATC Burgess Queen Stakes) from 14 starts for $1,440,120 earnings. This was a history making performance by Delicacy, who became the first horse ever to win the quartet of the SA Derby, Australasian Oaks, WA Oaks and WA Derby. Delicacy becomes just the second filly to claim the SA Derby-Australasian Oaks double, with Zarita the only other filly to achieve the feat in 2008.
