Star US Mare Sidelined Again

Friday, 8th May 2015

Exceptional US mare Beholder (Henny Hughes-Leslie's Lady, by Tricky Creek), whose recent return to the track after a lengthy period off the track showed she is back to the form that netted her six Gr1 races, is back on the sidelines. Beholder romped to victory on her return in April, and was due to start this weekend in tomorrow's Gr1 Vanity Stakes at Santa Anita. According to blood horse.com, the dual Eclipse Award winner appears to be showing similar symptoms to those that forced her to be scratched from last year's Gr1 Breeders' Cup Distaff. Trainer Richard Mandella, who reported Beholder's high temperature an elevated white blood cell count yesterday, commented: "She's fighting something, so she's out of the race." Beholder is owned by Spendthrift Farm which now boasts an Australian stallion division at the former Yallambee Stud property in Victoria.
