Rubick Retired To Coolmore Australia
Encosta de Lago's precocious sprinting colt Rubick (Encosta de Lago-Sliding Cube, by Rock Of Gibraltar) has been retired and will stand at Coolmore Australia for the 2015 season. A $460,000 yearling purchase by David Raphael from the Vinery draft at the 2013 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale, and closely related to Champion Sire Redoute's Choice, Rubick's fee has been set at $17,600 inc GST. The highest-rated juvenile in Australia of the 2013/14 season, Rubick defeated older Gr1 sprinters at weight-for-age in the Gr2 Schillaci Stakes at Caulfield as a 3YO. "His natural speed and precocity are attributes that are very much in demand in the commercial market place," said Coolmore Australia general manager Michael Kirwan. "We've been overrun with enquiries for him for some time and people are going to be very impressed when they see him." Trainer Gerald Ryan, who also managed the race career of leading sire Snitzel, was effusive in his praise: "Rubick had incredible natural ability. I've never had a horse that could run the times that he did. He's by far and away the fastest two year-old I've ever trained and has always been a standout physically."
