UK Winner For Lonhro

Thursday, 7th May 2015

Meanwhile, Darley's former Champion Australian Sire and 11-time Gr1-winning World Champion Miler Lonhro (Octagonal-Shadea, by Straight Strike) was also represented on the opening day of the Chester carnival overnight when 2YO filly Rah Rah (Lonhro-Rahiyah, by Rahy) saluted in the Lily Agnes Conditions Stakes over 1000m. Trained by Mark Johnston for Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Rah Rah took her record to 2 wins from 2 starts when fighting back after being headed close to home to score by half a length over 2YO colt Silver Wings & fellow filly Fashionable Spirit. Rah Rah is out of the Gr1 placed Rahy mare Rahiyah and hails from the family of English Gr1 winners Optimistic Lass and Golden Opinion. Deirdre Johnston, wife of trainer Mark, told Racing Post: "She is so tough - what a game filly. She shows lot of speed and is very professional and stayed on well on soft ground." She added, "I'm thinking she can go either five or six furlongs and that [Royal Ascot] is the dream." Winning jockey Franny Norton added: "It was a smart race and a smart time. On a bit better ground, you might see a smart filly."
