Fastnet Rock Adds UK Black-Type
At Chester in the UK, Coolmore's Gr1-winning son of Danehill Fastnet Rock (Danehill-Piccadilly Circus, by Royal Academy) added a black-type success when 3YO Irish-bred filly Diamondsandrubies (Fastnet Rock-Quarter Moon, by Sadler's Wells) scored 6-lengths trainer Aiden O'Brien in the Listed Cheshire Oaks (11.5 furlongs) for 3YO fillies, over fellow fillies Entertainment (Halling-Opera Comique, by Singspiel) & Zamoura (Azamour-Move, by Observatory). This was a brilliant performance by Diamondsandrubies who took her record to 2 wins and 1 placing (the Listed Salsabil Stakes) from 4 starts for £31,808 earnings. The impressive victory saw Diamondsandrubies price cut from 25-1 to 10-1 for next month's English Oaks at Epsom. She also holds Gr1 entries in the Pretty Polly Stakes and Irish Oaks. Coolmore spokesman Kevin Buckley confirmed post-race that the Epsom Oaks is the target for Diamondsandrubies. "We've spoken to Aidan since the win and he's confirmed that Epsom is the target," he told Sky Sports. "Aidan's looking at his options for the race and I imagine he'll have other possible runners and maybe have something for the Musidora at York next week." The beautifully bred Diamondsandrubies is out of the Sadler's Wells mare Quarter Moon, winner of the Gr1 Moyglare Stud Stakes (1400m) in Ireland as a 2YO. Quarter Moon progressed to be among the best of her generation at three, placing at Gr1 level on four occasions in the 1,000 Guineas, English Oaks, Irish Oaks, and Nassau Stakes. She is a full-sister to Irish 1,000 Guineas winner and English Oaks runner-up Yesterday, and hails from the family of dual Gr1-winning sire Aussie Rules, the world's top rated 3YO middle distance filly in 1998, Alborada, and 2004 German Horse of the year Albanova.
