El Roca Returns In BTC Cup

Thursday, 7th May 2015

Trainer Trent Busuttin is confident that El Roca (Fastnet Rock-Rubimill, by Rubiton) will perform well when he resumes in Saturday's Gr1 BTC Cup (1200m) at Doomben, despite not having raced for over a year, reports horseracing.com.au. The Fastnet Rock entire has not faced the starter since finishing ninth behind fellow Kiwi Sacred Falls in last year's Gr1 Doncaster Mile after suffering a suspensory ligament injury in the spring. However, the dual Gr1-placed 4YO showed he was on track for a successful return when winning a recent 1000m barrier trial in impressive fashion. "He has come back well, he has taken a long time to get fit and he is probably a long way off being at peak fitness," Busuttin told Sky's Racing HQ. "He is a big stallion and you can only get them so fit without racing. He trialled up well, had a good blow and he always puts in. He will race well, but it is a bit unknown." El Roca will be ridden by Hugh Bowman and will jump from barrier 14 in the $500,000 sprint.
