French & Irish Guineas Options For Belardo
Trainer Roger Varian is undecided over whether Belardo (Lope De Vega-Danaskaya, by Danehill) will take his chance in the French 2,000 Guineas at Longchamp on Sunday, reports Sky Sports. Crowned Champion European 2YO last season, Belardo won the Gr1 Dewhurst Stakes before Godolphin purchased a share in the talented Lope De Vega colt. Belardo made his seasonal reappearance in the Gr3 Greenham Stakes at Newbury last month, but the firm ground was against him and he finished a disappointing eighth of nine. "Belardo is in the French 2000 Guineas but he is not a definite runner. It is an option as we would be likely to have the ground in our favour in France," said Varian. "There are likely to be 20 runners and on the round course there that can be a bit of a scrum so we will consider the Irish 2000 Guineas, too." he added, "The horse is very well but no decision has been made yet. He will run in one or the other."
