Danehill Dancer Adds France Gr2
At Saint-Cloud in France overnight, former Coolmore shuttler Danehill Dancer (Danehill-Mira Adonde, by Sharpen Up) added a Group success when 3YO Irish-bred colt Sumbal (Danehill Dancer-Alix Road, by Linamix) romped home by 6-lengths for trainer Francis Graffard in the €130,000 Gr2 Prix Greffulhe (10 furlongs) for 3YOs, over fellow colts Untold Secret (Shamardal-Confidential Lady, by Singspiel) & Kouros Jelois (Hannouma-Anowa, by Lost World). This was the first stakes victory for the Qatar Racing-owned Sumbal who took his record to 3 wins from 3 starts for €103,600 earnings. Sumbal's task was made significantly easier when English Derby entry Epicuris was withdrawn at the start after refusing to enter the stalls. Epicuris, winner of the Gr1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud last year, was looking to get his Classic campaign back on track after suffering a surprise defeat on his reappearance last month. But all honours were with the classy Sumbal who maintained his unbeaten record with this proverbial walk in the park. David Redvers, racing manager for Sheikh Fahad's Qatar Racing operation, said Sumbal was likely to now head to the French Derby. "It [Prix du Jockey Club] is the obvious place to go," said Redvers. "We'll discuss it but to have done that as easily as he has you'd have to think he is a Group 1 horse and go for a big target." Sumbal also holds an entry in the Gr2 King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot.
