Derby Rematch Set For Preakness
Trainer Bob Baffert has confirmed that Kentucky Derby winner American Pharoah and his third-placed stable-mate Dortmund will both run in the second leg of the US Triple Crown, the Gr1 Preakness Stakes at Pimlico racecourse, on 16 May, reports Blood Horse. "As of right now, I don't see why not," Baffert told media at Churchill Downs. "We'll see how they train next week." Meanwhile, Simon Callaghan, trainer of Kentucky Derby runner-up Firing Line, said the colt could find the shorter distance of the Preakness better-suited to his running style. "There was a point in the stretch when I thought we could win," Callaghan said. "I'm really proud of the way he ran. I couldn't ask for any more. He came out of the race great. Our team had him spot on to run...in the end, there were no excuses. We got beat by a very good horse."
