The Conglomerate Wins Gr2 KRA Guineas
At Greyville in South Africa, Darley's former Australian Champion Sire & 11-time Gr1-winning World Champion Miler Lonhro (Octagonal-Shadea, by Straight Strike) added a Group success when 3YO Australian-bred colt The Conglomerate (Lonhro-Republic Lass, by Canny Lad) scored by 1.5-lengths for trainer Joey Ramsden in the Gr2 KRA Guineas (1600m) for 3YOs, over fellow Australian-bred colt Mac de Lago (Encosta de Lago-Macavelli Miss, by Vettori) & 3YO colt Light The Lights (Western Winter-First Arrival, by Northern Guest). Owned by South African businessman and leviathan owner Marcus Jooste, The Conglomerate was purchased by Jooste's Mayfair Speculators for $160,000 at the 2013 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Tyreel Stud. The beautifully bred colt is the first stakes winner from dual Gr1-winning filly Republic Lass, winner of the 2002 Australian Oaks (2400m) and 2003 Ranvet Stakes (2000m). The Conglomerate's record now stands at 5 wins (including the Gr3 Julius Baer Politician Stakes) from 8 starts.
