The Justice League Back This Weekend
Pukekohe trainer Nigel Tiley is keeping an open mind about the prospects of exciting juvenile The Justice League (I Am Invincible-L'Artiste, by Peintre Celebre) as he puts the finishing touches on his preparation for a return to racing this weekend, reports NZ Racing Desk. Not seen since finishing towards the rear of the field when one of the favourites in New Zealand's richest race, the Karaka Million, in January, the powerful son of I Am Invincible has been gelded since and Tiley is happy with his charge leading into Saturday's feature event at Te Rapa, the Listed Equine Stakes (1100m). "He has really settled down a lot since he was gelded and he has been ticking along nicely at home for the past few weeks," he said. "His work has been very good and he seems to have handled the wetter tracks we've had of late so I'm hopeful of a good showing although you don't know how they really handle bad ground until the pressure of a race goes on them." He added, "I was hoping to give him a trial at Waipa but we missed out however I don't think that will have any bearing on how he goes on Saturday." Tiley isn't looking beyond Saturday's event, preferring to keep his options open at this stage. "We might give him one more if he was to win on Saturday but he would have to win and win well for that to become a reality," he said. "On what he has shown me to date I believe he will be a very exciting three-year-old so if he doesn't get the victory he will go to the paddock knowing we have a lot to look forward to in the spring."
