Rock Hero To Stand At Lauriston Park

Friday, 1st May 2015

Lauriston Park Stud, in conjunction with LP Stallions, has added well-credentialed Rock Hero to its stallion roster. Joining stalwart Desert King at the Creighton's Creek farm this autumn, Rock Hero is a son of former champion stallion Fastnet Rock, currently leading the 2014/15 Australian Sire Premiership. One of nine stakes winners - current star filly First Seal another - bred on a Fastnet Rock x Sadler's Wells cross, Rock Hero is the first foal produced by the dual Gr2-winning mare Gallant Tess. A descendant of the breed shaping matriarch Mumtaz Mahal, Rock Hero is from one of the world's great stallion families, one that has produced the likes of Nasrullah, Royal Charger, Mahmoud, Kalamoun, Danewin and Commands. The David Payne-trained colt created a big impression when breaking his maiden by a stunning 6.25-lengths in track record time at Canterbury in September 2013. He then went right on with the job when stepping up to stakes class at his next outing, overcoming trouble at the start to win the Listed Dulcify Quality, again in track record time. Rock Hero is already at Lauriston Park and the stud's Chris Bakker is delighted with him. "He is a lovely big strong horse with a terrific temperament and he settled in very well very quickly." Bakker is also delighted that Rock Hero's owner-breeder John Cordina will be supporting the stallion with some lovely mares this season giving the young stallion a great start to his stud career. Rock Hero debuts at a fee of $4,950 (inc GST; free return).
