Colt Makes Statement On Debut

Thursday, 30th April 2015

Press Statement, a half-brother to Gr1-winning juvenile Pressday, made the perfect start to his career when scoring a stylish win at Canterbury yesterday. The 2YO by Hinchinbrook out of Kaaptive Empress settled back in the field before letting down with a strong run to win by 1.5-lengths over Volante and Godolphin colt Reincarnate in the Tab Place Multi Handicap over 1100m. The highly regarded Cyrus Rocks, whom Gai Waterhouse has entered for Royal Ascot, hardly looked a 2YO capable of mixing it with Europe's best when finishing a lack lustre sixth after racing wide. A trip to England must now be in grave doubt for the Bernardini colt. But all honours were with Press Statement, with trainer Chris Waller predicting a bright future for the colt. "The horse means a lot to us being a half brother to Pressday who was my first two-year-old Group 1 winner so he looks a very promising horse," Waller said. "He is a lovely three-year-old type and too see him jump and put himself there really showed his ability and too quicken up like he did stamped it." Press Statement's sibling Pressday was successful at the highest level when winning the Gr1 TJ Smith Classic during the 2010 Brisbane winter carnival, but Waller said it was unlikely his little brother would follow the same path. "Time is running out for Queensland and I am not saying he won't go but at this stage it is unlikely," he said.
