Leebaz Wins Gr2 Hollindale Stakes

Monday, 27th April 2015

At the Gold Coast in Queensland, Cambridge Stud's retired Champion sire Zabeel (Sir Tristram-Lady Giselle, by Nureyev) added a Group success when 5YO gelding Leebaz (Zabeel-Polish Princess, by Polish Precedent) scored by 0.2-length for the training triumvirate of Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes in the $358,000 Gr2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) for 3YO+, over 4YO gelding Sir Moments (Choisir-Colourful Moments, by Zabeel) & 9YO UK-bred gelding I'm Imposing (Danehill Dancer-On Fair Stage, by Sadler's Wells). Leebaz took his record to 7 wins (including the Gr3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup & Gr3 Doncaster Mile Prelude) and 5 palcings (including the Gr1 Doomben Cup) from 17 starts for $712,900 earnings. Leebaz was a $460,000 purchase by Hawkes Racing at the 2011 NZB Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Windsor Park Stud. From the stakes winning Polish Precedent mare Polish Princess, Leebaz is a half-brother to Gr2 Tulloch Stakes winner Polish Knight and hails from the outstanding Meon Valley Stud (England) family of Irish Champion Stakes winner Cezanne and Irish Oaks winner Colorspin, dam of top-class Gr1-winning siblings Kayf Tara and Opera House.
