High Chaparral Adds UK Gr3

Monday, 27th April 2015

At Sandown in the UK, Coolmore's deceased dual Derby-winning shuttler & 6-time Gr1 victor High Chaparral (Sadler's Wells-Kasora, by Dashaan) added a Group success when talented 4YO gelding Western Hymn (High Chaparral-Blue Rhapsody, by Cape Cross) scored by 0.75-length for trainer John Gosden and jockey Frankie Dettori in the Gr3 Gordon Richards Stakes (10 furlongs), over 4YO entires Postponed (Dubawi) & Cannock Chase (Lemon Drop Kid). Western Hymn took his record to 5 wins (including the Gr2 Prix Eugene Adam) from 8 starts for £259,473 earnings. Trainer John Gosden told Racing Post: "He's come here today on good form and showed his class. We'll look towards races like the Hardwicke, which closes on Tuesday. Frankie seems to think he'll get a mile and a half." He added, "He's much more professional for being gelded and has been working nicely. He was cut in the winter because he was never going to be a stallion and his mind wasn't always on racing."
