Srikandi Kicks Off Winter Campaign

Friday, 24th April 2015

Trainer Ciaron Maher believes that smart sprinting mare Srikandi (Dubawi-Raining, by Hurricane Sky) is primed for her best campaign yet having returned from a break a bigger and stronger horse, reports Sky Racing. The 4YO daughter of Dubawi has not raced since finishing third behind River Lad in last year's Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap, with Maher purposely giving her a long spell to prepare for her three Gr1 targets, the BTC Cup (1200m), Doomben 10,000 (1350m), and Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m). Maher says Srikandi has had two trials in the lead-up to Saturday's race winning the most recent at Casterton on April 14. "We have given her a long spell and she has really furnished into a lovely mare," Maher said. "We have given her every chance with a long spell and I think she is up to this grade in the winter."
