Pasadena Girl Wins Gr1 Champagne Stakes
At Royal Randwick in Sydney, Waikato Stud's Cox Plate winning stallion Savabeel (Zabeel-Savannah Success, by Success Express) celebrated a Gr1 success when 2YO filly Pasadenas Girl (Savabeel-Nina From Pasadena, by Redoute's Choice) scored by 0.5-length for trainer Peter Moody in the $400,000 Gr1 Champagne Stakes (1600m) for 2YOs, over 2YO colts Street Rapper (Street Boss-Swing Dance, by Danehill Dancer) & Tarquin (Hard Spun-Daanet Al Dunya, by Rahy). Pasadena Girl, who was a $25,000 purchase by Moody Racing at the 2014 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Eliza Park International, took her record to 3 wins (including the Gr3 Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes & Listed Talindert Stakes) from 4 starts for $458,500 earnings. Trainer Peter Moody said that Pasadena Girl would now be spelled to prepare for Gr1 targets in the spring including the Flight Stakes and Thousand Guineas. "She is a little gem," Moody told Sky Racing. "It was probably only the heavy ground that cost her in the Sires the other day, she ran super and she has backed that up today with a very solid performance." He added, "When I purchased her I expected her to be going to the races at this time next year and she has surprised us. It is only upwards and onwards from here for her. She is a Flight Stakes, Thousand Guineas type filly and then you look at the Wakeful and the Oaks you would like to think." Pasadena Girl's fifth dam is Reprocolor, one of the foundation mares for the Weinfeld family's Meon Valley Stud in England which counts among its alumni top-class European Gr1-winners Opera House, Kayf Tara, Cezanne, and Colorspin.
