Chautauqua Looms Large For All Aged Rivals

Tuesday, 14th April 2015

The Championships Gr1 T.J.Smith (1200m) winner Chautauqua, who rattled home from the back of the field, could prove even more problematic for rivals when stepped up to Saturday's 1400m in the Gr1 All Aged Stakes at Royal Randwick. The impeccably bred gelded son of Encosta de Lago and Lovely Jubly showed at Hawkesbury earlier in his career that the extra 200m shouldn't pose any problems, however he is a whole different proposition these days, particularly if the pace is solid up front. According to RSN, Team Hawkes spokesman, co-trainer, Michael Hawkes noted that Chautauqua is likely to be closer to the leading division on Saturday: "He loves winding up but at the 1400 (metres) he might be a touch closer in the run. You just have to have him where he's happy."
