Australian Sires Premiership Update

Friday, 10th April 2015

After 36 weeks of the 2014-15 racing season, Coolmore's Fastnet Rock remains at the top of the sires leader board with $7,595,889 in progeny earnings. The big mover of the week was Fastnet Rock's barn-mate Encosta de Lago, who charged into second position with $6,627,453 in progeny earnings courtesy of Chautauqua's brilliant win in the Gr1 TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick last Saturday. However, the sire to watch this weekend is undoubtedly High Chaparral. With Contributer representing him in the $4m Queen Elizabeth Stakes, and Fenway in the $1m Australian Oaks, the outstanding but ill-fated sire could conceivably be the number one sire at the end of the weekend if results go his way. The latest Top Ten rankings (according to arion.co.nz as at 9 April) are:

  1. Fastnet Rock (Danehill) - $7,595,889
  2. Encosta de Lago (Fairy King) - $6,627,453
  3. Redoute's Choice (Danehill) - $6,600,010
  4. Exceed and Excel (Danehill) - $6,340,589
  5. Street Cry (Machiavellian) - $5,714,245
  6. Lonhro (Octagonal) - $5,621,786
  7. Snitzel (Redoute's Choice) - $5,435,076
  8. Stratum (Redoute's Choice) - $4,866,788
  9. High Chaparral (Sadler's Wells) - $4,592,352
  10. Northern Meteor (Encosta de Lago) - $4,565,962
