Kermadec Wins Gr1 Doncaster Mile
At Royal Randwick in Sydney, unbeaten European Champion juvenile & dual Gr1-winning Darley shuttler Teofilo (Galileo-Speirbhean, by Danehill) celebrated a Gr1 triumph when 3YO colt Kermadec (Teofilo-Hy Fuji, by Fuji Kiseki) scored by 1.8-lengths for trainer Chris Waller in the $3 million Gr1 Doncaster Mile (1600m) for 3YO+, over 7YO Japanese entire real Impact (Deep Impact-Tokio Reality, by Meadowlake) & 5YO mare and stable-mate Royal Descent (Redoute's Choice-Mulan Princess, by Kaapstad). Kermadec, who was purchased for NZ$260,000 by Guy Mulcaster Bloodstock at the 2013 NZB Premier Yearling Sale form the draft of Wentwood Grange, took his record to 3 wins (including the Gr3 Carbine Club Stakes) and 3 placings (including the Gr1 George Ryder Stakes) from 8 starts for $2,217,025 earnings. "It is an unexplainable moment," an emotional Chris Waller told Sky Racing. "He is a Group 1 horse and he proved that today, but it won't be his last one. He has won his race and being a colt he has a bright future ahead." He added, "It is only made possible when you have a great team of staff behind you, great riders and it is just an amazing feeling."
