Hennessy Likens Colt To Ocean Park
Trainer and part-owner Gary Hennessy has drawn a favourable comparison between former stable star Ocean Park and impressive debut winner Ocean Emperor, reports NZ Racing Desk. The Zabeel 3YO was purchased by Hennessy for NZ$450,000 at last year's NZB Premier Yearling Sale and looked a smart galloper in the making when winning at Te Rapa on Sunday despite showing signs of greenness. "Like Ocean Park he is a casual track worker, but when you've been there before you can see the same attitude," he said. "He's got the good looks like Ocean Park and I identified him as a horse we could do the same again with – he's got the pedigree and the class to race in Australia and in time develop into a stallion." Hennessy owns Ocean Emperor with Hong Kong partners Andrew Wong and Steve Yang, the same trio that raced the Cox Plate winner. "He won a two-year-old trial by five lengths when he was as green as grass and we knew then we had something special," Hennessy said. "He's been shin sore off and on, but he'll get over that with maturity. Long-term, the Randwick Guineas is the race I've got my eye on for the autumn." He added, "We'll plan our way toward that and use the same formula as Ocean Park and give him some time to strengthen and develop." Ocean Emperor is out of Gr3 Mannerism Stakes winner Tootsie and hails from the family of stakes winners La Rose Noir, Urbane, and Espurante.
