Toronado Thriving Ahead Of BC

Wednesday, 29th October 2014

Toronado (High Chaparral-Wana Doo, by Grand Slam) is reported to be in excellent shape ahead of Saturday's Breeders' Cup Mile at Santa Anita Park, reports At The Races. The Richard Hannon-trained 4YO pleased connections when working on Tuesday morning in the hands of exercise rider Sean Levey. "He's in great form. Sean said he feels great," said Harry Herbert, racing advisor for owners Al Shaqab Racing. "He's been an amazing horse and he's developed physically into a great beast of a horse and has a great mind on him, which should help him adapt to conditions. We're delighted he's got a favourable draw (five), but he still needs to get out and hold his position." He added, "The fact he has been lightly raced this year can only be an advantage." Toronado has had just the three starts in 2014, winning the Gr1 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot on his reappearance and finishing runner-up in both the Gr1 Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood and the Gr1 Prix du Moulin at Longchamp. The BC Mile is expected to be Toronado's final career start with the dual Gr1 winner to stand at the National Stud in Newmarket next year.
