Criterion Hong Kong Bound

Tuesday, 28th October 2014

Criterion (Sebring-Mica's Pride, by Bite the Bullet) will back up in Saturday's $1 million Gr1 Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) at Flemington before a likely overseas sojourn aimed at the Gr1 Hong Kong Cup (2000m) at Sha Tin in December, reports racing.com. Trainer David Payne said the 4YO had pulled up well following a luckless run in Saturday's Cox Plate in which he finished seventh, beaten just 1.4-lengths by Coolmore colt Adelaide. "There were a lot of factors against him on Saturday. He missed the start, he got chopped out of it and then he was checked again at the 1200," Payne said. "He came through the run well so he'll go to the Mackinnon and then he'll be nominated for Hong Kong." He added, "We'll wait and see how he goes in the Mackinnon before confirming the trip." Payne said he expects Criterion to be better suited on the spacious Flemington track.
