Elm Park Wins Gr1 Racing Post Trophy

Monday, 27th October 2014

Elm Park became the first Gr1 winner for his sire Phoenix Reach when scoring an impressive 2.75-length win in the Racing Post Trophy (8 furlongs) at Doncaster on Saturday, reports racingpost.com. The Andrew Balding-trained Elm Park proved too strong for Ballydoyle colt Aloft (Galileo-Dietrich, by Storm Cat) & the Mark Prescott-trained Celestial Path (Footstepsinthesand-Miss Kittyhawk, by Hawk Wing) to take his record to 4 wins (including the Gr2 Royal Lodge Stakes) and 1 placing from 5 starts. Phoenix Reach, who resides at Mickley Stud in the UK, was also trained by Balding who prepared him to win three Gr1 races, namely the Canadian International, Hong Kong Vase and Dubai Sheema Classic. The son of Alhaarth originally retired to stand at the National Stud in 2007 before moving to Mickley in 2012, where he has stood for £1,500 for the past two seasons.
