Record Pre-Entries For Breeders' Cup

Friday, 24th October 2014

A record 201 horses, including five returning 2013 winners, have been pre-entered for this year's Breeders' Cup championship weekend, reports thoroughbreddailynews.com. The championships, featuring 13 Gr1 events worth US$26 million, will be held at Santa Anita Park in California for the third straight year from 31 October to 1 November. The weekend's showpiece event, the US$5 million Breeders' Cup Classic, has received 15 entries. While the Classic has been won by older horses in 10 of the past 12 years, this year's renewal has attracted a powerful group of 3YOs led by Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner California Chrome, last year's unbeaten juvenile champion Shared Belief, Belmont Stakes winner Tonalist, and Haskell Invitational winner Bayern.
