Survived Returns On Saturday

Thursday, 16th October 2014

New Zealand trainer Kelly Burne isn't expecting any heroics from Survived (Zed-Liberal, by Generous) when the 5YO returns from injury in the WFA Gr3 Lion Red Plate (1200m) at Arawa Park on Saturday, reports NZ Racing Desk. The Hawke's Bay trainer has endured a frustrating period with the Gr1 winner, who made a disappointing debut for his new stable in the Makfi Challenge Stakes at Hastings in August. The winner of the Hastings feature in 2013 when prepared by John Bary, Survived suffered pulled muscles when attempting to defend his title. "He's feeling a lot better than he was after the Makfi, but he's not the easiest horse to ride work and goes full bore every day," said Burne. "The 1200 metres at Rotorua will be too short for him and he'll need the run. He galloped over 1200 on Tuesday morning and he blew like a train." She added, "I'm still working the horse out and he's had a few issues – my honest opinion is that we need another six months, we're still feeling our way with him."
