Fawkner Wins Gr1 Caulfield Stakes

Monday, 13th October 2014

At Caulfield in Melbourne, Darley's unbeaten multiple Gr1-winning stallion Reset (Zabeel-Assertive Lass, by Zeditave) added a Gr1 success when consistent 7YO gelding Fawkner (Reset-Dane Belltar, by Danewin) scored by 0.2-length for trainer Robert Hickmott in the $400,000 Gr1 Caulfield Stakes (2000m) at wfa for 3YOs+, over fast-finishing 4YO entire Criterion (Sebring-Mica's Pride, by Bite the Bullet) & Great Britain-bred 8YO gelding Side Glance (Passing Glance-Averami, by Averti). A 2009 $70,000 Inglis Melbourne graduate consigned by Mill Park, Fawkner took his record to 10 wins (including 2013's Gr1 Caulfield Cup, Gr3 Tab.com.au Stakes, Listed Headquarters Tavern Stakes & Listed Sofitel Stakes) & 6 placings (including the Gr1 Makybe Diva Stakes, Gr1 Turnbull Stakes, Gr1 Emirates Stakes & Gr1 William Reid Stakes) from 24 starts for $2,867,751 earnings. While the race left a huge question mark over Dissident's Cox Plate campaign, the winner and runner-up look perfectly placed for Australia's champion wfa event in two weeks time.
