Frankel SAf Flavour Of The Month

Friday, 10th October 2014

On the heels of several high profile Australian and New Zealand studs reporting foals (born to southern hemisphere time) by the world's highest ever rated racehorse Frankel, South African breeding aficionados are eagerly looking forward to the birth of a foal by the son of Galileo. According to goldcircle.co.za, the matron in waiting on this occasion is Champion Sprinter Val De Ra, with the Avontuur-owned mare due to foal at Drakenstein Stud's quarantine facility. Set to be covered by former Coolmore shuttler Oratario (now permanently based in South Africa), Val De Ra's first foal is by Oasis Dream whose son topped Day-1 of the 2014 Tattersalls October Book-1 Yearling Sale. Her owners have spent a veritable fortune on her first two matings, with the local currency conversion adding up to R3.8 million. Val De Ra retired with 11 wins from 13 starts, among them versatile victories in the Gr1 Computaform Sprint (Turffontein), Gr1 South African Fillies Sprint (Scottsville) & Gr1 Cape Flying Championship (Kenilworth).
