Gr2 Quinella For Artie Schiller
Two top-quality sons of Artie Schiller fought out the finish of the Gr2 City of Hope Mile at Santa Anita when Big Bane Theory led home Mr Commons to post his maiden black-type victory. A 5YO son of the Emirates Park-owned stallion having only his 11th start in the turf feature, Big Bane Theory made the most of a perfect passage, having travelled sweetly on the fence in a hotly contested event. Asked to join the leaders around the home-turn, the California-based entire assumed control of the contest at the top of the straight before going on to post a comprehensive one and a half-length victory. Artie Schiller provided the quinella in the US Gr2 assignment when Mr Commons rattled home through the field to finish runner-up. The 6YO had only one rival behind him in the early stages of the contest before dashing passed virtually every other runner in the field to claim second prize. Big Bane Theory was having only his second outing in 2014 yet was able to register the impressive winning time of 1:32.38 for the mile. Now a four-time winner of over US$330,000 in prize-money, all four of his victories have been recorded on turf. Big Bane Theory became the 22nd individual stakes winner for Artie Schiller. As a maternal grandson of Alysheba and great-grandson of Seattle Slew, he is bred on similar terms to Artie Schiller's US Gr1 winners We Miss Artie and My Conquestadory, as well as the stallion's North American stakes winners Hop The Six and Irish Art.
