Hoof Problem For Lankan Rupee

Friday, 3rd October 2014

Meanwhile, newly crowned Australian Racehorse of the Year, Lankan Rupee (Redoute's Choice-Estelle Collection, by Stravinsky) will miss the Gr2 Schillaci Stakes at Caulfield on Saturday week after he was found to be suffering from a hoof complaint, reports racing.com. Trainer Mick Price said the star sprinter had responded well to treatment for a quartercrack to his off-front hoof, and was on track to return in the Gr1 Manikato Stakes at Moonee Valley on 24 October. "A quartercrack was treated on the inside of his off-front yesterday and the horse has responded very well," Price said. "Quartercracks can become worse if they're not addressed, so we have done so. He worked this morning, trot and cantered good, the horse is not feeling any discomfort through the foot…I'm very happy with what my farriers have done and the horse seems fine." Price speculated that the problem was a result of a hoof abscess Lankan Rupee suffered before the start of his spring campaign.
