Australia To Tackle His Elders At York

Wednesday, 20th August 2014

Sensationally bred and performed Ballydoyle 3YO colt Australia (Galileo-Ouija Board,  by Cape Cross) will take on his elder contemporaries today at York in the Gr1 Juddmonte International Stakes (10 furlongs). The race is worth £800,000, making it the richest event ever held at the course. Winner of both the Gr1 Epsom Derby & Gr1 Irish Derby (see below), odds-on favourite Australia may not have things all his own way. Unraced since completing the Derby double about seven weeks ago, Australia "is a good bit heavier than he was in the Derbys and I suppose that just makes you a little bit more anxious. So, really, he is just ready to go away and obviously we would imagine that he would come on a lot from the run," trainer Aidan O'Brien told bloodhorse.com. In the six horse field Australia's toughest opposition is expected to come from 4YO entire Telescope & 5YO entire Mukhadram who filled the placings behind sensational 3YO filly Taghrooda in the Gr1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot.
