Tiara Tilt For Costa Viva

Friday, 20th June 2014

Jason Bridgman is hoping for a change of luck with talented New Zealand filly Costa Viva (Encosta de Lago-Vivacious Spirit, by Bel Esprit) in tomorrow's Gr1 Tattersall's Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm, reports NZ Racing Desk. Costa Viva, winner of last season's NZ 1,000 Guineas, has been plagued by bad luck in her first two runs in Brisbane. The Encosta de Lago filly finished fourth in last month's Gr3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) from a wide barrier before she was again thwarted by an outside draw when ninth in the Gr2 Queensland Guineas (1400m) at Eagle Farm. "She's come through that race really well. She just had no luck," lamented Bridgman. Costa Viva is a $26 outsider for the final Gr1 of the season but while Bridgman acknowledges his filly faces a step up in class, he's not ruling her out as a winning hope. "Her run in the Queensland Guineas was massive. If she'd drawn a barrier, she could have won that race and if she'd won that race, she'd be one of the favourites for this one," he said. "If she can get in, one-off midfield or even three wide with cover, I honestly think she's a first-four chance."
