Sole Power Wins Gr1 King's Stand Stakes
At Royal Ascot in the UK, 7YO gelding Sole Power (Kyllachy-Demerger, by Distant View) made it back-to-back wins in the Gr1 King's Stand Stakes (1000m) for 3YO+, when scoring an explosive 1.25-length win over 5YO entire Stepper Point (Kyllachy-Sacre Coeur, by Compton Place) & 3YO colt Hot Streak (Iffraaj-Ashirah, by Housebuster). This was the third Gr1 success for Sole Power who took his record to 9 wins (including the Gr1 King's Stand Stakes & Gr1 Nunthorpe Stakes) and 13 placings (including the Gr1 Al Quoz Sprint, Gr1 Hong Kong Sprint, Gr1 King's Stand Stakes & Gr1 Nunthorpe Stakes) from 41 starts for £1,383,511 earnings. Ridden for the first time by champion jockey Richard Hughes, Sole Power was switched off at the rear of the field and delivered late to score a brilliant win. Once unleashed on the far side of the track, the response was immediate with the veteran sprinter bursting to the lead and settling the matter in a few strides. Trainer Eddie Lynam told racinguk.com: "He was the best horse in the race, experience has won him it. This horse has been lucky because he's never had a well-known trainer but he's always had a top-class jockey. That was his 17th run in a Group One and he'll have his 18th on Saturday (in the Diamond Jubilee)."
