Srikandi Targets Gr1 Tiara

Wednesday, 11th June 2014

Smart Victorian filly Srikandi is likely to run in the Gr1 Tattersall's Tiara (1400m) at Eagle Farm on 21 June, reports racingnetwork.com.au. Trainer Ciaron Maher said Srikandi had come through Saturday's Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap in good shape and that he was looking forward to testing her in top company against her own sex. "She has come through great," he said, "Very bright and well." Maher said the filly's brave third behind River Lad on the weekend showed she was still enjoying her racing despite a long campaign. "If it wasn't a Group 1 she wouldn't run, but we're here, she's well and it's a Group 1 for fillies and mares, so there's not really much reason to miss the race," he added. Srikandi has certainly come a long way in a short period of time. Since resuming in February the daughter of Dubawi has won five of her seven starts, including stakes victories in the Listed Gold Coast Silk Stocking, Listed Juanmo Stakes and Gr3 Glenlogan Park Stakes. She now boasts the impressive strike rate of 6 wins and 2 placings from 8 starts for over $400,000 prize-money.
