Setback For Habibi

Thursday, 5th June 2014

Former outstanding New Zealand filly Habibi's (Ekraar-Danny Holiday, by Danasinga) much-awaited North American debut has been delayed, reports NZ Racing Desk. The Gr1 New Zealand Derby winner was scheduled to race at Santa Anita on Friday in a 1600m fillies and mares event, but a cough has forced her withdrawal. Formerly trained by Donna and Dean Logan in New Zealand, Habibi was sold to leviathan US owner George Strawbridge after contesting last year's Gr1 Australian Oaks. Now with California trainer Dan Blacker, the daughter of Ekraar has been set for the Gr1 Santa Anita Gold Cup on 28 June.
