Toormore To Use Craven As Classic Prep

Wednesday, 26th March 2014

Toormore (Arakan-Danetime Out, by Danetime), Europe's Champion 2YO last year, looks set to return in the Gr3 Craven Plate at Newmarket on 17 April as a warm-up for the 2,000 Guineas, for which he is third favourite, reports racingpost.com. Tom Palin, representing the colt's owners Middleham Park Racing IX and James Pak, said: "After discussing Toormore with his owners and the Hannons we have agreed that we will target him towards the Craven before the Guineas." The Hannon stable has won the past two renewals of the Craven, which is run over the same course and distance as the Guineas, with Trumpet Major saluting in 2012 and Toronado last year. Neither was able to win the Guineas, which last went to a Craven winner in 2004 when Haafhd won both races. The Guineas market is dominated by Ballydoyle blue-blood Australia, whose odds shortened again on Monday following positive comments by trainer Aidan O'Brien. Coral and William Hill both tightened the son of Galileo and Ouija Board into 2-1 while Paddy Power held firm at 9-4.
