Appearance Retired

Wednesday, 26th March 2014

Outstanding Darley mare Appearance (Commands-Disguise, by Grand Lodge) has been retired after suffering a leg injury, reports theinformant.co.nz. The four-time Gr1 winner was unbeaten in three starts this campaign and was the favourite for next month's Doncaster Mile. Appearance's premature retirement will be acutely felt by trainer Guy Walter, who recently rated her the equal of Manikato Stakes & Lightning Stakes winning mare Spinning Hill. "It is an unusual injury," said Walter. "She has a bit of a tear to a ligament in the back of a joint in her off foreleg. She has been a wonderful mare and she will be retired now." Appearance, a 5YO daughter of Commands, has had a history of muscle problems which have been carefully managed by Walter, who guided her to nine wins from 19 starts for $1.7 million in prize-money. Her most recent outing was in the Gr1 Canterbury Stakes at Randwick on 15 March, when scoring a brilliant victory over top-class gallopers Not Listenin'tome and Red Tracer. From the Grand Lodge mare Disguise, Appearance is a full-sister to Mascareri, winner of the 2006 Silk Stocking on the Gold Coast.
