McDonald Bullish About It's A Dundeel
Young New Zealand jockey James McDonald is bullish, to say the least, about the prospects of It's A Dundeel in Saturday's Gr1 Ranvet Stakes (2000m) predicting he will emerge triumphant against fellow heavyweight galloper Fiorente, reports nzracing.co.nz. The race, which is being billed as a contest that will determine Australasia's best racehorse, will be the first time that It's A Dundeel and Fiorente have competed against each other since the Cox Plate in October. McDonald is in the unique position of having ridden both horses and believes he knows which is superior. "He'll win on Saturday," McDonald said of It's A Dundeel. "He's going really well. He looks tremendous. Obviously Fiorente is a super horse, but I just think over 2000m, I'll have the upper hand over him." He added, "My horse has got a better turn of foot and he's just got something about him. I've ridden both of them and I have a feeling mine is the better horse over 2000m." Fiorente is racing in career best form this campaign, with two wins from two starts including his last-start victory in the Gr1 Australian Cup, while It's A Dundeel resumed with a second placing behind Boban in the Gr1 Chipping Norton Stakes (1600m) at Warwick Farm earlier this month. "He got beaten by a really good miler, probably the best miler in the country, and he'd [Boban] had a couple of runs under his belt. And we gave him a drag into the race," said It's A Dundeel's trainer Murray Baker. "The step up to 2000m will suit him this week and we're still on the improve. He's the No 1 horse Fiorente, so he's the horse to beat."
