Queensland Target For Rock Diva

Thursday, 20th March 2014

Talented New Zealand filly Rock Diva (Lucky Unicorn-Bohemian Blues, by Blues Traveller) will be given a short break and aimed at the Gr1 Queensland Oaks, reports theinformant.co.nz. While Rock Diva's NZ Oaks conqueror Miss Mossman will cross the Tasman in search of further Oaks glory in the Australian equivalent, Rock Diva will be freshened before embarking on a Brisbane Winter Carnival campaign. "She pulled up quite well but is having 10 days in the paddock," said co-trainer Tony Pike. "We'll then get her ready for Brisbane. The Queensland Oaks will be her main goal." He added, "We'll be able to get a good line on the Aussie fillies through Miss Mossman going for the Oaks in Sydney. It'll be interesting to see how she measures up." Rock Diva ran third, beaten 6-lengths, last weekend behind Miss Mossman after having no luck in the running. "The trip she had it was impossible to win," said Pike. "When she got checked at the 1200 metres it pretty much finished the race for her. She was out three-deep from the 600 to make her run. It was a brave effort." Pike says no firm decision has been made regarding Rock Diva's next start. "She will either run at Te Rapa on the 26th [April] or in the Gold Coast Bracelet," he said. The Gr1 Queensland Oaks (2400m) will be run at Eagle Farm on 31 May.
