SAf Juvenile Winner For Charge Forward

Monday, 17th March 2014

Sheikh Hamdan's winning run in South Africa with Australian-bred juveniles  continued on Saturday when 2YO filly Qawaasem (Charge Forward-Ribe, by Danehill) scored impressively on debut at Turffontein, reports breednet.com.au. Trained by Mike de Kock and ridden by Anthony Delpech, Qawaasem won the 1450m Maiden Fillies Plate by 2.75-lengths over Trophy Wife & Lemon Tea. Like last week's stakes-winners Banaadeer and Majmu, Qawaasem was purchased from the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale with Shadwell paying $240,000 for her from the draft of Arrowfield Stud. Qawaasem was the most expensive yearling by Charge Forward sold in 2013 and is a half-sister to Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Reaan, who also raced in the blue and white silks of Sheikh Hamdan. Qawaasem is the sixth winner from the Danehill mare Ribe, winner of the Gr2 Moonee Valley Oaks.
