Vercingetorix Wins UAE Gr1 Jebel Hatta Stakes

Monday, 10th March 2014

At Meydan racecourse in Dubai, star South African galloper Vercingetorix (Silvano-National Vixen, by National Assembly) extended his unbeaten winning sequence to six when scoring by 1.75-lengths in the Gr1 Jebel Hatta Stakes (1800m) for 3YO+, over 4YO entire Vancouverite (Dansili-Villarrica, by Selkirk) & 6YO entire and stable-mate Anaerobio (Catcher in the Rye-Potra Anala, by Potrillon). Vercingetorix took his record 6 wins (including the Gr1 Daily News 2000 Stakes & Gr2 KRA Guineas) from 6 starts. The 4YO entire will now be aimed at the US$5 million Gr1 Dubai Duty Free on World Cup night. "Vercingetorix is a very useful horse but it is hard to know just how good because he only ever does enough. In all his races he has travelled really well and gone to the front easily before quickening," Mike de Kock commented on his website. "He then tends to stop and wait for some company - as Christophe discovered last time. It is great to win a Group 1 here with him and the Dubai Duty Free is the obvious target. He did not take the travel and quarantine well and we are delighted to have him back at his best."
