Thunder Fantasy Confirmed For Aust Cup
Anthony Cummings says that promising 3YO Thunder Fantasy (Lucky Owners-Pink Pier, by Galileo) will definitely take his place in Saturday's Gr1 Australian Cup (2000m) at Flemington after working strongly yesterday morning, reports horseracing.com.au. The Lucky Owners gelding will back up after his impressive performance in last week's Australian Guineas, where he ran home strongly over the concluding stages suggesting Saturday's extra distance will suit. "He has done really well. He has a great appetite and looks better and has certainly tightened up a bit on the run from on the weekend, which going into the mile-and-a-quarter at that level he certainly needed to," Cummings told Sky Racing HQ. "I was very pleased with his work this morning [Wednesday], his demeanour is good and he will cope with the back-up pretty easily I would say." Cummings said that Thunder Fantasy's Australian Guineas run had convinced him to target the Australian Derby instead of the Doncaster Mile, the two main autumn races he was considering. "He hit the line really well (in the Australian Guineas) and the way he went about his work in that final furlong is probably what pushed me to the Derby as a real prospect for him," Cummings added. "I think that we are heading in the right direction."
